Civil Engineering

The purpose of this major is to train high-level application-oriented senior engineering technicians, who can grasp the fundamental theories, knowledge and skills in relevant branches of civil engineering design, construction, research and management. Communication Engineering

Communication Engineering is about the application of technology to solve societal needs. The mission of the major of Communication Engineering in ZUST is to produce communication engineers with the educational foundation and adaptive skills to serve rapidly evolving communication and electrical technology industries. Communication engineers are the people responsible for designing the systems and components that capture, store, process, interpret, and transmit information or signals.

Some of the most significant technological advances of the 20th century were either invented or put into practice by communication engineers, including electric power systems; global broadcast and personal telecommunication systems; medical instrumentation, such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI); integrated circuits; lasers; household appliances; and feedback control, such as for autopilots. New technologies developed by communication engineers are likely to be even more important in the 21st century as a new era of intelligent, information-driven systems is made possible by fundamental advances in faster communication rates, smaller devices, and greater computational capabilities.

The Communication Engineering major in ZUST was established in 1980s and has progressed rapidly to become one of the key construction majors of Zhejiang Province of China. We provide diverse curricula that will instill in our students the imagination, talents, creativity, and skills necessary for the varied and rapidly changing requirements of modern life. A new information and communications technology (ICT) integration center of production and education was established in April 2018 together with ZTE Corporation. ZTE Corporation is a global leader in telecommunications and information technology, who has been committed to providing communication devices and service over 160 countries around the world. There are four labs in our ICT center with a total investment of over ten million RMB, including LTE mobile communication lab, Cloud communication lab, Data communication lab and PTN network communication lab. Without a doubt, ICT center will greatly help improve our students’ practical ability and provide more employment opportunities. There are 12 full-time teachers in the major, 33.3% with senior titles, 41.6% with doctor’s degree, 33.3% with foreign country study or work experience and 33.3% are National or Provincial funded projects principle investigator.

After four years of study in Communication Engineering, about 15% of the students pursue the graduate program, and the rest are qualified as software engineers, hardware engineers, network engineers or project managers, who can go to the communications, electronics, information technology companies such as ZTE, Huawei, Alibaba and etc. The software engineers are mainly engaged in the software program design, programming and debugging of the project. Hardware engineers are mainly engaged in hardware design and measurement of electronic and communication systems. Network engineers are mainly engaged in the design optimization and maintenance of communication networks. The project managers are responsible for the design and implementation of the planning communication system.

At present, communication technology industry is in rapid development, all kinds of new information systems such as mobile internet, internet of things, car networking, unmanned vehicle, unmanned aerial vehicles, smart phones and the corresponding information services such as mobile payment emerge in endlessly, this requires a lot of communication engineering talents, so the employment prospect continues to be optimistic.

Through more than 10 years’ efforts, the chair for Communication Engineering has build up a complete system of academic disciplines. The chair has extensive experience in education with good teaching facilities. Digital Media Technology



The major aims at cultivating talents with excellent professional quality, who are able to systematically master the theoretical knowledge, practical skills and methods of digital media technology, and have the ability to design and develop digital media productions. This study program is tailored to train talents with solid fundamentals of Laser 3D Technology, as well as strong practical ability and creative sense. Robotics Engineering

Robot engineering is a typical new engineering major that meets the global development trend of industry. It has strong novelty, practicality and comprehensiveness. Robot engineering trains system development, design, and application personnel with robots as the mainstay, and having both robot system and automation engineering application capabilities, control theory and mechanical and electrical system knowledge, and computer software and hardware design capabilities. Graduates of this major can find employment in the fields of robotics, artificial intelligence, electronic technology, automation, and computers, as well as entrepreneurship and development in many emerging high-tech companies in artificial intelligence and intelligent systems, or enter universities and research institutes for continuing studies. Related English-taught Master Program

Offered by the same School of Automation and Electrical Engineering (AEE), Intelligent Manufacturing and Control Engineering is an interdisciplinary discipline with electrical engineering, control engineering, computer science and technology, and mechanical engineering.






Career Prospects

Currently, many countries have realized the importance of robots and all raised their ambitious plan on introducing more robots into industry, economics and other related areas. Germany invented the phase “Industry 4.0” and China also proposed “Intelligent manufacture 2020”. Thus the research and application on robots is highly promising to be prosperous and has only made a successful start of an even brighter future, creating a lot of practice and job opportunities. The Robotic Technology and Artificial Intelligence are in rapid development, and therefore all kinds of new intelligent systems such as industrial robotic, internet of things, vehicular networking, unmanned vehicle, unmanned aerial vehicles emerge in endlessly, which requires many robotics engineering talents, maintaining the optimistic prospect of employment.

After four years of study in Robotics Engineering, approximately half of the graduates start a career in the industry, qualified as system engineers, hardware engineers, algorithm engineers or project managers, who can go to the robotics, electronics, artificial intelligent, information technology companies such as HUAWEI, Panasonic, SIEMENS, Rockwell, Alibaba, Supcon, Media, GREE etc.

The other graduates continue to pursue postgraduate studies, in universities around China and overseas e.g. in Europe. Zhejiang University of Science and Technology-Rockwell Automation Comprehensive Laboratory was established under the support of Rockwell Automation a world famous company in 2015. It is an automation engineering application base which can provide theoretical teaching and engineering practice platform for the majors of robotics engineering, automation, electrical engineering and its automation. It has 20 sets of PLC control experiment, asynchronous motor drive control experiment and servo motor control experimental device each, and 3 sets of college student competition training equipment.

Students are assigned their personal mentors to guide in course selection, to suggest career path, to provide additional resources and laboratory access, to supervise after-class hands-on projects and competitions, to arrange on-campus part-time positions and industry internship opportunities. Data Science and Big Data Technology is a newly emerging interdisciplinary of Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Mathematics and Statistics. The courses are mainly involved with how to use the Computer Technology, Artificial Intelligence method and Statistics theory to solve Big Data intelligent analysis, processing and decision-making problems in industrial applications. The objective of the major is to cultivate application-oriented and international senior data talents which has international vision, communication ability, and master basic theory of Data Science, Big Data Technology and basic skills of Artificial Intelligence, can be engaged in the management, analysis, research and development in relevant departments of Big Data Industry.

Enrollment Advantage

At present, less than 10% of the total colleges and universities with majors and directions related to big data have been opened. The colleges and universities specialized in training international big data professionals are still blank. It is difficult to meet the needs of society in a short period of time, and the needs of international big data talents huge.

This program is supported by the 4 master's degree programs. Students can continue to study for a master's degree in a relevant major after successfully completing this program. There is 1 school-running an experimental center, 7 research institutes, 1 research center, and 1 innovation base in the school.

Vehicle Engineering

The Vehicle Engineering major in ZUST was established in 2003 and has progressed rapidly to become one of the key construction majors of Zhejiang Province, China. We provide diverse curricula to be evenly balanced between theoretical and practical elements, which instil in our students the imagination, talents, creativity, and skills necessary for the varied and rapidly changing demands of automotive industry and its enterprises. Our curricula not only cover practical courses using official training materials for career certification such as 1+Xprofessional skills in automotive field sponsored by Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, preparing our students for a career in the maintenance and marketing of automotive industry, but also the theory and practice of various mechanical engineering and Vehicle Engineering courses such as Mechanical Precision Design and Measurement, Mechanical Control Engineering, Automotive Structure, Automotive Theory, Automotive Design, learning to prepare them for further studies in new-energy vehicle and autonomous vehicle research areas.


Related English-taught Master Program

The Automotive Technology Experiment Education Center (ATEEC) had been selected into the provincial laboratory demonstration center in April 2010. As a feature of its education, the center puts emphasis on building practical abilities and a sense of innovation by actively holding extracurricular scientific and technological activities. The center supports extensive course teaching, experiments, projects, part-time jobs, internship opportunities and competitions. The Automotive Department has established provincial characteristic specialty of new energy vehicle technology during the 12th Five Year Plan and the 13th five year plan.

Offered by the same School of Mechanical and Energy Engineering, Vehicle Engineering is an interdisciplinary discipline with mechanical engineering, computer science and technology, seeking to advance science and technology in the automotive industry through integration of fundamental professional knowledge and its application in Vehicle Engineering.


Career Prospects

At present, the automotive industry is a growing global industry, and therefore companies expect the most well prepared young engineers who are aware of the solid theoretical fundamentals, have project experience and can use the latest tools – both hardware and software. Our most graduates are engaged in a variety of work such as design and development, test and research, production management, scientific research, and higher education.

After four years of study in Vehicle Engineering, approximately half of the graduates start a career in the industry, based on a “two-way selection”, qualified as Vehicle Engineering, mechanical engineers, hardware engineers, software engineers or project managers, who can are employed by major car, truck and bus companies, as well as entire automobile manufacturers and parts manufacturers, such as Bosch, Ford, Geely, Zhejiang Asia-pacific Mechanical & Electronic, Pingan Insurance, etc.

The other graduates continue to pursue master’s degree under recommendation and excused from a test. Their excellent academic performance and extra-curriculum activity gives them an overwhelming advantage in scholarship applications. Many graduates proceed to pursue master’s degree at our own school with familiar supervisors.
