Dormitories are the important places where college students live and study. The issue of dormitory security has always been a key task in college security work. How to provide a safe management system is critical for schools and students. So we should surely keep fire and electrical safety in our mind.
Fire and Electrical Safety
Types of fires in students’ dormitory
Use of Prohibited Electrical Appliances
Prohibited electrical appliances mainly include rice cookers, electric heating rods, electric stoves, induction cookers, electric hot pots, electric blankets, electric heaters, immersion water heaters, and portable gas stoves (cassette stoves). Student dormitories are densely populated areas; using such prohibited appliances can overload the electrical circuits, easily leading to fires.
Unauthorized Use of Open Flames
Open flame use mainly refers to lighting candles, burning debris, and smoking in the dormitory. Most dorm furniture is wooden, and stored items like students' bedding and books are highly flammable; any carelessness could easily cause a fire.
Unauthorized Wiring and Random Connection of Cables
Don't touch the wire. It's dangerous. Leave it where it is. Many fire were started by an electrical short-circuit.
Dorm Fire Safety, Key Points to Remember
Please do not use open fire
Students are forbidden to burn papers in the dormitory.
Electrical safety
Don’t use rice cookers, electric sticks, electric stoves, induction cookers, electric dishes, electric heaters etc.
Don’t touch electrical appliance with wet hand.
Don't connect the electric wire without permission.
Please operate appropriately by following correct procedures. Please contact the managers in time for any failure.
Don’t overload electrical outlets.
Do not recharge cell phone for a long time.
Turn off power strips and electronic devices when not in use. Please turn off all power when you leave your dorm room.
Proper Placement of Items
Books and papers should be far away from electric appliance and never pile them up in large quantities..
Please take good care of room, furniture, electrical equipment and keep the room and living environment clean.
Do not leave personal belongings in the safe passage.
Prohibition of Storing Flammable and Explosive Items
It is forbidden to store inflammable, explosive, corrosive and other dangerous stuffs in the dormitory.
It is strictly forbidden to place inflammable materials in the area of direct sunlight.
Learning Escape Knowledge
The knowledge of fire fighting and escape must be well learned, including how to call the police, how to escape, knowing where the escape route is , pay attention to the location of fire fighting equipment in dormitory building.
If there is a fire, don't be panic, and call 119 quickly.
The detailed address, fire location, fire substance, fire size, the name and telephone number of the alarm person should be told clearly while you call the police.
Special Notes
In order to improve the safety awareness of international students, the reminders are as follows:
Pay attention to the use of electric devices. Avoid using high-power appliances. Make sure to switch off and unplug your devices after use.
