农历八月十五，中秋节，是中国最重要的传统节日之一。这是一个团圆（tuányuán）的时刻，也是一个庆贺丰收的日子。它在中国为何如此重要呢？

Mid-Autumn Festival, observed on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month,  is one of China's most important traditional holidays. It's a time for family reunion (团圆, tuányuán) and giving thanks for the harvest. But why do we celebrate it?

这背后有一个美丽的传说——嫦娥奔月（Cháng'é Bēn Yuè）。相传古时天上有十个太阳，民不聊生。神箭手后羿射下九个太阳，拯救了苍生。作为奖励，他得到了一颗长生不老的仙丹。然而，他贪婪的徒弟企图偷取仙丹。为了保护仙丹，后羿的妻子嫦娥情急之下将它吞下。随后她便飞向月亮，成为月仙，与心爱的丈夫永远分离。因此，在中秋之夜，我们仰望明月，会想起嫦娥，也更加珍惜与所爱之人团聚的时光。

The most famous legend is the story of Chang'e Flying to the Moon (嫦娥奔月, Cháng'é Bēn Yuè). Long ago, there were ten suns in the sky, scorching the earth. The heroic archer, Hou Yi (后羿), shot down nine of them, saving humanity. As a reward, he was given an elixir of immortality. However, his greedy apprentice tried to steal it. To protect the elixir, Hou Yi's wife, Chang'e, drank it herself. She then floated up to the moon, where she became immortal, forever separated from her beloved husband. On this night, we gaze at the moon, thinking of Chang'e and remembering the importance of being with our loved ones.

1. 品尝月饼（pǐncháng yuèbǐng）Savor the Mooncake

This is a perfect sentiment for international students–you may be far from home, but you can still look at the same moon as your family.
