On Nov. 6th, local time in German, the Erfurt Confucius Institute was invited to take part in the annual activity in the main campus of Fachhochschule Erfurt, whose theme was “A Long Night of Science”. The activity was held by municipal government of Erfurt, University of Erfurt, Fachhochschule Erfurt, Hospital of Erfurt and many scientific and cutural institutions, such as banks and transport companys. The seminar included various knowledge in the field of science, which aimed to help people get to know the development of sicence and culture in nowadays. The audiences could watch the presentation of 3D printers , so as to learn the definition of modern Physics and Mathmatics, the usage of English idioms and so on. Ma’am Ursula Rimbach, the specical guest invited by Erfurt Confucius, gave a lecture of the lifestyle of traditional Chinese medical science.

Since 1996, Ma’am Ursula Rimbach had devoted herself to the research into traditional Chinese medical science and acupuncture, and she also taught the lessons of Qigong and meditation. There were 2 parts in the lecture, the first one was the discussion of stress and the definition of traditional Chinese medical science, and the second part was the interaction.

With her personal experience, Ma’am Ursula Rimbach talked about “traditional Chinese medical science and stress”. She believed that there were two kinds of stress, one was Eu-Stress and the other was Di-Stress. The former one was a positive one, which can promote people, while the latter cannot. Ma’am Ursula Rimbach analyzed these two definitions in a lucid way. She told the audience about the origin of stress, and explained with a large number of examples of how the traditional Chinese medical science relieved stress effectively.

During the interaction, all the audience stood up and took part in it. First, Ma’am Ursula Rimbach demonstrated some primitive actions of exercise and relaxation of muscle tension. Then she asked all the audience to start to do those actions. The more they practiced, the more quickly the actions became. With laughter everywhere, that was the dual effect of relieving stress physically and psychologically.

After the seminar, most of the participants told us that although they had known a little of Chinese traditional culture, the seminar impressed them a lot, especially the interaction. Thanks to the interaction, they realized that traditional Chinese medical science was not just a meaningless word on the website or in the book, but a way, in which people could relieve their stress, be healthier and promote their life. From the seminar, the audience learnt about the actual utility of traditional Chinese medical science. It promoted the communication of Chinese culture, and also broadened the field of cultural communication.
