My name is William Rivaldi Kosasih from Indonesia. I am very pleased and honored to get the chance to share with you guys my journey of studying in China so far. It was a such an amazing opportunity to be able to study in China. I experienced a lot of ups and downs; I also learned many new stuffs such as the culture here and also the language.
I have been studying in ZUST for almost 3 years now and because of the pandemic that happened, I have to study online from home for the past 2 years. During that hard time, school stuffs was really complicated. For me, studying in the class face to face with the teacher is so much better comparing with studying online. Studying in the class helps us understand the lessons faster, clearer, and better while I think for most of us, studying online got lot of issues such as internet connection problems, time differences, and many more. The Chinese language that I have learned so far was rarely used in my daily life and that is my main concerned because I think the best way to learn languages are when we use it every day. But I am really impressed with the teachers because even the studying processes are really hard and complicated for us, they are still working on so many things really hard to help us understand the lessons well. Sometimes, I also listen to Chinese songs or watching Chinese movies or TV series to keep me in track in learning Chinese language.
Besides my study life, basketball is the other part of my life. Basketball have been giving me a lot of experiences, supports, and advantages such as scholarships during my high school time. I participated in a lot of basketball competitions in Indonesia before going to Hangzhou for my study. I once joined the junior national team of Indonesia on 2018 to compete with another 15 Asia Countries in the FIBA Asia Championship U-18 in Thailand. We managed to finish in the top 10 after losing to China on the last match.
While in ZUST, I really enjoyed spending my time playing basketball with other students from different countries while also get to know a lot of new friends. I usually play with the others in the school’s court when there is a free time. I also joined some external competitions that were held inside and outside of Hangzhou. I am really excited and looking forward to join the school’s international student team one day.
Besides basketball, i also took part in many volunteer work when i was in China, like go to the primary school and kindergarden to talk to them , teach kids basketball and so on.
Finally, i really hope the pandemic can come to an end in the coming 2022. So we all can meet in campus face to face. Let all humans unite and work together of defeat the virus and embrace bright future of all nations.
