1) Civil Engineering


The academic master's program of Civil Engineering taught in English is to train globalization-oriented and international professionals, committed to exploring the innovative training mode for the international graduate students, attract the outstanding students from the world, and develop high-quality and professionally comprehensive talents in civil engineering.

Civil Engineering is one of the first majors established in ZUST more than 30 years ago. After years of construction
, the profession platform is steadily improving, and the strength of scientific research is increasingly growing. In 2008, Civil Engineering was recommended by Zhejiang Provincial Education Department and approved as one of the third batch of national characteristic specialty construction points. In 2010, Civil Engineering Lab Center was classified as experimental teaching demonstration center in Zhejiang Province. In May 2012, Civil Engineering passed the National Civil Engineering undergraduate education assessment held by Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of the People’s Republic of China (MOHURD), and became the first major that has passed the professional assessment in Zhejiang University of Science and Technology, ZUST. In June 2012, Civil Engineering was funded as the key discipline by the Zhejiang Provincial Twelfth Five-Year Plan. In January 2013, the construction of academic master’s program of Civil Engineering passed the qualification check.

Civil Engineering discipline carries out international exchange and cooperation positively, broadens the international educational channels to enhance cooperation with oversea universities. So far,the partner universities are German Jade University of Applied Sciences, Georg Simon Ohm University of Applied Sciences Nuernberg, Coburg University of Applied Sciences, San Francisco State University, and France Cergy-Pontoise University and so on. The main programs include Civil Engineering International Program (San Francisco State University),Double Degree Program (Luebeck University of Applied Science), Sino-France Joint Program (Cergy-Pontoise University).

The master's program of Intelligent Manufacturing and Control Engineering focuses on the area of intelligent equipment technology,manufacturing system informatization, intelligent sensing and control technology, aims to train high-quality and professionallyinternational talents in control engineering and mechanical engineering for the international students.

5) Civil Engineering (Engineering Simulation calculation and statistic)

 

This project is an academic degree master of the second disciplines approved by the state's independent setting, which is the cross discipline consisting of applied mathematics, computational science, financial and statistics, simulation technology, management decision-making, engineering economy, civil engineering and other fields.

The discipline is studying the applied mathematics problems with engineering background, studying of generic technology in the engineering technology or key technology. The theories and methods of these studies will be directly applied to the practical problems in the field of engineering.

This project adopts the English teaching and guidance. The training objective includes: students mastering firm basic theories and systems expertise, engaging in scientific research, teaching work or expertise work independently, using the model to solve practical problems of engineering and financial engineering, application of computer simulation and big data processing, applying project management statistical methods for engineering project risk forecast and control, and so on.

Modeling study, simulation test, data management, visual computing, risk control and management decisions have become its innovation means. Because "Engineering simulation and statistics" discipline advantage just reflects the change and development trend,  the social demand of this discipline will present growth trend. Major Specialties

(1)The theory and application of Engineering mathematics. To study the mathematical model of engineering problems in Applied Mathematics, engineering mechanics, building physics and mathematical statistics with the direction. For example, engineering transportation and transportation allocation model, security network model, input output and decision model, risk control and countermeasure model, etc..

(2) The numerical calculation and Simulation of engineering. The direction including engineering calculation, numerical analysis, structural analysis and numerical simulation, numerical simulation, structure CAD and engineering design and construction process of data processing, visualization, engineering structure simulation experiment. The numerical simulation is realized on the computer, and has the advantage of repeatability. The application platform through numerical calculation and simulation technology for engineering design and theoretical analysis to provide visualization.

(3) Statistics and its application in engineering. The study of engineering economics, financial engineering, management statistics, etc., study the statistical model, statistical forecast, risk assessment and control of engineering management.

(4) Quantum information and quantum computing, which focuses research orientations on the following topics: efficient quantum algorithms, construction of quantum hardware and devices, quantum measurement and control, quantum communication and error correction, as well as quantum metrology.

(5) The study of micro- and nano- optics with research topics of design and fabrication of micro/nano optical devices, development and application of micro/nano systems, micro/nano optical printing and application.

6) Mechanical Engineering

 

Mechanical Engineering", in Zhejiang University of Science and Technology is a key discipline listed in "Zhejiang Twelfth- five" program, founded at the establishment of the university. In 1990, it is classified as one of the first government-level Sino-German cooperation project.

The subject carries out research relying on  Province Key Laboratory of Food logistics, Hangzhou department of National Engineering Research Center for High Efficiency Grinding, two national engineering training center (National Construction Machinery Engineering Training Center and ZUST-APG Mechanism design, manufacturing and automatization  training center), the first Zhejiang Key Scientific and Technological Innovation Team of Modern Logistics and Safety Control of Agricultural Products (as one of the lead units) , member of Industry-Academy-Research Alliances in Haining (established with t Haining provincial High-tech Zone as a lead unit) and other disciplinary platforms.  We have formed distinct characteristics in the areas: modern logistics equipment manufacturing technology and systems integration, manufacturing technology of key parts in special vehicle, electromechanical numerical simulation and basic research system, reverse design and rapid manufacturing.

7) Mathematics

 

The students of this program should grasp the basic theories and knowledge of mathematics solidly and systematically and be familiar with the development status, trends and frontiers of the research direction of mathematics. The graduates would be able to engage in independent research in the field of this subject or related subject, use mathematical knowledge and computer technology to analyze and solve some problems in natural science and engineering technology, and have good scientific research quality and strong innovation ability. The graduates would master a foreign language. They are required to be able to read the foreign language information of the major, and have a certain ability to write foreign language academic papers.

This program has the following orientations, namely Harmonic Analysis and Partial Differential Equations, Complex analysis and operators theory, Big Data Processing and Statistical Analysis, Dynamical System and Numerical Computation, Graph Theory and Optimization, etc.

Harmonic analysis and partial differential equations is the study of objects defined on topological groups. Complex analysis and operators theory works in a variety of fields, including functions of a complex variable, several complex variables, analytic function spaces, functional analysis and operator theory. Big Data Processing and Statistical Analysis is focused on the processing of big data, including machine learning, large-scale numerical optimization, big data statistics theory and so on. Dynamical System and Numerical Computation is often regarded as an important tool to discover the rule of real world, which is to establish mathematical model for some practical problems originating from Engineering, Mathematics of Finance, Mathematics of Biology, etc., and further analyze the properties of corresponding models by using the theory and method of ordinary differential equation (for short, ODE) and dynamical system. Graph Theory and Optimization is a branch of discrete mathematics.

8) Physics

 

This program is aimed to train high-quality talents with solid fundamental knowledge and professional application skills in the field of Physics. The students will learn frontiers and recent developments in modern physics, and acquire experimental skills and basic diagnostic techniques. The graduates will lay a solid foundation in physics and be able to solve practical problems in engineering and technology. Furthermore, students’ stringent attitude toward learning and realistic style in research will be developed. The graduates will have high capabilities in independent scientific research and technology development, a strong sense of innovation, higher literacy, good teamwork spirit, as well as an international outlook.

 

The major contains the following orientations, namely Applied Optics, Material Physics, Physics of Quantum Information, etc. Applied Optics is very closely related to artificial intelligence (AI), which design machines to do intelligent work that only people can do in the past. For inanimate machines, one of the most important thing to do is to consider how to perceive the information of the environment using optical approaches. Materials Physics is the study of organizational structure, material properties, production process, use efficiency and the relationship between them, which covering physics, chemistry, and other fields as well. As for Physics of Quantum Information, we know that quantum computation and information are results of the efforts to generalize classical computation and information to the quantum world. An important step in quantum information theory is the manipulation of quantum information. This requires quantum logic gates, in rough analog to the processing of classical information with digital circuits.

9) Applied Statistics


“The master degree graduate students of applied statistics” project offers a solid foundation for theoretical statistics, providing extensive education in the field of applied statistics, and providing big data analysis and practical projects. Graduates are employed in the whole world, involving fields, including all sectors of society, economic and financial industry, government and business management, social investigation and analysis, and statistical analysis of all kinds of big data. The master of applied statistics is designed for those interested in business, industry, agriculture, forestry, fisheries, enterprise, government, or scientific research.

The master of applied statistics requires that students must be an undergraduate degree. The professional background is inclined to recruit students in the fields of statistics, mathematics, engineering, physics, economics, finance, management, computer science, and so on.

In the premise course, students should learn the following four courses: the minimum mathematics background, the two semester calculus, a calculus course based on non calculus, and a matrix algebra.

For this project, students have two options:

Option I is focused on the sample analysis and statistical analysis of the economic and financial industry, the enterprise and the government management.

Option II is the large data science and large data statistical analysis of various industries. Compared with Option I, this selection is more focused on computing science, such as database, data storage, large data processing, and so on.

For students who have professional knowledge in statistics, applied mathematics, engineering or computing science, they can finish in 2 years. The major must start in autumn and end in spring.

For students who are not well prepared, Zhejiang University of Science and Technology can make up for the prerequisite courses of the major, which will increase the time required to complete the degree, increase one semester or two semesters, and start school in autumn or spring.
